Stansfield is a Type B Village
What does this mean?
This is a classification by West Suffolk District Council, (WSC), our local planning authority. It means that there are very few reasons that new homes can be built here.
As we are remote from services like shops, doctors, schools etc and there is little or no public transport, it is likely that residents will have to use private cars to meet their day to day needs.
So WSC planners will not allocate potential sites for new housing here, and will only permit limited infill, or affordable housing exception sites, dependent on a proven need in the village. A Housing Survey might be one way of proving such a need.
Examples of where development may be deemed appropriate here include:
· Small scale infill residential development of one or two homes
· Replacement of existing homes on a one-to-one basis
· Conversion and re-use of existing buildings (like barns) for residential or employment purposes
· An affordable housing exception site next to a settlement boundary
· An agricultural or essential worker’s home
· Where a Neighbourhood Plan is prepared and proposes site allocations
